Acrylic Mediums
To create depth and texture I use Golden Light Molding Paste and Granular Gel. These are impasto products. I recommend that both products are from the same manufacturer. How the product works can be different with each manufacturer. If you used Golden Granular Gel and used another manufacturer for the molding paste you may run into problems: such as not drying properly and painting pigmentation variations.
Depending on how much medium is used it can take up to a few days to dry. If the impasto products are not hard to the touch then it is not completely dry. I do not apply paint until the impasto products are completely dry.
If you have not used these products before, using your palette knife, place impasto products on 300 lb watercolor paper pieces to explore the medium and to create comfort in using these products.
I feel that there is a direct link between what you are experiencing in your yoga practice and what comes out in your painting. In my yoga practice I was working on creating fluid movements with breath. The painting above has fluid strokes while still maintaining structure.
